ArcJournal

ArcJournal is a desktop journal for Windows, macOS and Linux, built with Electron. Write daily entries, tag the mood behind them and grade your days, so patterns show up over time in your stats. Version 2.0 encrypts every entry on your computer with a key only your passphrase or recovery key can open, so the server stores what you write only as ciphertext that nobody else can read, Arcnode included. You sign in with your Arcnode account, and the app keeps itself up to date on every platform.

What is ArcJournal?

Can Arcnode read my journal?

No. Everything you write in ArcJournal 2.0 is encrypted on your computer with AES-256-GCM before it is saved, with a key only your passphrase or recovery key can open. The server stores it only as ciphertext.

What if I forget my passphrase?

Use the recovery key you saved when you set up encryption. Without the passphrase or the recovery key nobody can open the journal, including Arcnode.

Which systems does ArcJournal run on?

Windows 10 and 11, macOS 13 or later (Apple silicon and Intel) and Linux (.deb, .rpm or zip). The app updates itself on every platform.

I use ArcJournal 1.x. What happens to my entries?

Download 2.0 by hand and sign in with your old login. When you set your passphrase, the app saves an unencrypted backup to Documents/ArcJournal backups and then encrypts your entries. The server keeps a plaintext safety copy of each migrated entry for 90 days, then deletes it.
